A dedicated NFT community, custodians of the original 'doge' meme, is collaborating with local government authorities to realise a tangible tribute to Kabosu, the canine muse behind the viral sensation.
Scheduled for its grand unveiling on 2 November in Sakura, Japan, to coincide with Kabosu's birthday, this endeavour is a joint effort with the City of Sakura.
The statue's designated home will be Sakura Furusato Square, a place frequently visited by Kabosu and her owner.
The Shiba Inu's ardent admirers, inspired by her role as the source of the Doge meme and Dogecoin's genesis, banded together last year to fundraise for this very statue.
Remarkably, their aspirations extend beyond earthly bounds, as they harbour ambitions to one day place it on the lunar surface.
Tridog of PleasrDAO, the community that owns the NFT, said:
“We've been operating for over two years, bringing Doge to places she's never been, including Hollywood, EDM bangers and space (The Doge NFT going on a SpaceX mission to moon). Our goal is to become THE Doge gathering place online for all of the Doge and meme community."
Besides The Grand Unveiling Of Kabosus Statue, What Other Activities Have Been Planned?
To mark the occasion, the community is planning a series of interactive events that promise to engage attendees in a celebration befitting Kabosu's enduring legacy.
In addition to the festivities, attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet Kabosu and receive special privileges commensurate with their NFT holdings.
PleasrDAO, a consortium of NFT collectors renowned for their acquisition of high-value NFTs and their commitment to community building, spearheaded the initiative, which includes the 'Own The Doge' project.
For PleasrDAO, 'DOGE' encapsulates the spirit of 'Do Only Good Everyday,' underlining their mission to contribute to meaningful global causes.
In addition to these philanthropic endeavours, 'Own The Doge' is actively engaged in producing a documentary chronicling Kabosu's life and the meteoric ascent of the 'doge' meme.
Who Is Kabosu And How Did This Beloved Shiba Inu Came To Fame?
Kabosu, the endearing Shiba Inu, whose captivating gaze propelled the 'doge' meme to internet stardom, originally found refuge from a puppy mill.
She discovered a loving home with Atsuko Sato, a Japanese kindergarten teacher, who affectionately named her after a citrus fruit.
The iconic image of Kabosu, immortalised in a blog post by Sato in 2010, gained unprecedented traction when it was subsequently shared by John Monarch on Reddit, who christened her 'doge.'
This marked the inception of the 'Doge' meme, which rapidly spread like wildfire.
In a world increasingly enamoured with animal-themed memes, two enterprising programmers, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, saw an opportunity to inject a sense of playfulness into the world of cryptocurrency.
Thus, Dogecoin was born, emerging as a whimsical and lighthearted counterpoint to the more serious Bitcoin.
Notably, billionaire entrepreneur and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has emerged as a prominent advocate for Dogecoin, further fuelling its rise to prominence.
