Investors Anticipate Rebound in U.S. Software Stocks Amid Record Call Options Volume

Investors are increasingly optimistic about a recovery in U.S. software stocks, as evidenced by a surge in call options volume for the Tech-Software ETF, $IGV. The Kobeissi Letter posted on X that the volume reached a record 220,000 contracts on Wednesday, marking a fourfold increase from the previous high at the start of 2025. This surge occurs as $IGV has experienced a year-to-date decline of 25%, reaching its lowest point since April 2025. Since September 2025, the prices of the Tech-Software ETF have dropped by 33%. Consequently, $IGV's performance relative to the S&P 500 has fallen to its lowest level since January 2018. In January alone, the S&P North American Software index saw a 15% decrease, marking its most significant monthly drop since October 2008. The recent sell-off in software stocks is beginning to appear excessive, prompting investors to bet on a potential rebound.
