U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning to NATO allies regarding the future of the alliance if they do not assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz. According to PANews, Trump emphasized that countries benefiting from the strait should help ensure its security, highlighting Europe's heavy reliance on Gulf oil compared to the United States.
Trump stated that a lack of response or a negative response from allies could spell a bleak future for NATO. When asked about the type of assistance needed, he mentioned 'any necessary help,' suggesting that allies should deploy minesweepers, as Europe possesses more of these vessels than the U.S.
He hinted at a desire for European nations to send commandos or other military forces to counter Iranian personnel using drones and mines to create 'trouble' in the Gulf. Additionally, Trump warned that the U.S. is prepared to launch new strikes on Iran's oil export hub at Kharg Island and potentially target its oil infrastructure.
