A former senior UK military official has expressed concerns over the country's inability to defend against potential missile attacks from Iran. According to Jin10, Israel recently warned that Tehran has developed intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching London. Previously, Iran attempted to target the joint UK-US military base on Diego Garcia in the Chagos Archipelago, located 2,400 miles from Iran. One missile was intercepted by a US warship, while another failed mid-flight.
A senior defense source familiar with the UK's integrated air defense system cautioned that the country would struggle to counter such long-range bombardments. The source stated, "The situation is dire... dealing with ballistic missiles is a skill that requires long-term learning, and unfortunately, the UK's skill level in this area is very, very low."
Former Air Vice-Marshal Sean Bell noted that during the Cold War, the UK possessed Bloodhound missiles to counter such threats. However, due to a lack of investment, the nation's defense capabilities have since diminished.
