According to Odaily, sources have revealed that Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), took over as the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Friday evening. Concurrently, officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, assumed control and deleted the CFPB's X account. Musk tweeted "CFPB RIP" with a tombstone emoji on the X platform on Friday afternoon.
The CFPB's homepage currently displays a "404 Page Not Found" error, although other sections of the website remain accessible. Sources indicate that DOGE officials have gained administrative access to the CFPB's systems, including the content management system, website backend, and personnel active directory. The internal atmosphere at the CFPB is reportedly "filled with frustration and anger."
Neither the White House nor the CFPB has responded to CNN's requests for comment.
