According to Odaily, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has expressed his views on the sentencing of 'Bitcoin Jesus' Roger Ver, calling a life sentence for non-violent tax offenses absurd. Buterin suggested that the case against Ver appears to be politically motivated. He compared it to the situation of Ross Ulbricht, founder of the dark web marketplace Silk Road, noting that many individuals and companies accused of more severe crimes have received significantly lighter sentences than Ver. Buterin criticized the alleged actions of the IRS if they indeed threatened Ver's attorney to obtain confidential information, labeling it as malicious. He emphasized that the right to confidential legal consultations must be inviolably protected. Buterin argued that genuine errors should be rectified by allowing individuals to pay their taxes, including interest and penalties, rather than through prosecution.
