According to PANews, Wyoming Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis is advocating for amendments to her party's tax and spending bill to reform the U.S. taxation of cryptocurrencies. The proposal includes extending the 'wash sale rule' from securities trading to the cryptocurrency sector, potentially generating billions in tax revenue, while exempting Bitcoin miners from reporting gains and losses. Lummis has submitted the tax reform plan, co-drafted with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo. Lummis emphasized the need to address flaws in the current tax system, while Gillibrand expressed concerns about the timing of the legislation. Members of the Finance Committee have consulted with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the bill, with Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy noting the President's interest in the 'work account benefits' provision. If passed, the proposal would establish the first systematic tax framework for crypto assets in the United States.
