UK Proposes Ban on Ransomware Payments by Public Sector

According to Foresight News, the United Kingdom has introduced a proposal on July 22 to prohibit its public sector, including healthcare services and local councils, from paying ransomware demands. The proposal mandates victims to submit a report containing essential details to the government within 72 hours of an attack and conduct a more comprehensive analysis within 28 days. Ransomware typically demands ransom payments in cryptocurrency. UK Security Minister Dan Jarvis stated that the proposal reflects the Home Office's determination to dismantle the business model of cybercrime and protect the services that everyone relies on. He emphasized collaboration with the industry to advance these measures.
