U.S. Consumer Inflation and Employment Expectations Show Slight Improvement in January

A survey conducted by the New York Federal Reserve Bank indicates a slight improvement in U.S. consumer expectations regarding inflation and the job market for January. According to RTHK, the monthly consumer expectations survey released by the New York Fed shows that consumers anticipate a 3.1% increase in prices over the next year, down from 3.4% in December. Expectations for inflation over the next three and five years remain unchanged at 3%. The survey also reveals that consumers perceive a reduced risk of unemployment. Even if they do become unemployed, the likelihood of finding a new job within three months has risen to approximately 46%. Regarding financial conditions over the next year, the proportion of consumers who believe their situation will improve is roughly equal to those who think it will worsen.
