The Australian housing market maintained its upward trend in January, with monthly growth slightly increasing. According to Ming Pao, Tim Lawless, the Australian Research Director at real estate data firm Cotality, noted that rising inflation is increasing the likelihood of further interest rate hikes by the Australian central bank. This situation may challenge buyers' affordability and potentially affect the willingness of prospective buyers to enter the market. Consequently, overall demand for housing may decline, and the growth momentum of Australian property prices is expected to slow compared to last year.
