IRS To Lay Off Thousands Amid Tax Season Restructuring

According to Odaily, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is set to lay off approximately 6,700 employees on Thursday. This restructuring could lead to staffing challenges during the crucial tax filing season. The affected employees are probationary staff, typically with one to two years of service at the agency, and they have fewer job protections compared to long-term employees. The IRS currently employs around 17,000 probationary workers.
