What is Ordinals and How Does It Work?
The Ordinals protocol has introduced a new way of embedding data onto Bitcoin.
By allowing data to be inscribed onto individual satoshis—the smallest unit of Bitcoin (1/100,000,000 of a single BTC)—Ordinals makes each of these digital pieces unique.
This uniqueness turns them into a Bitcoin-based form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
While NFTs gained widespread popularity in 2021, particularly on Ethereum, Ordinals brings a similar digital art concept to the Bitcoin blockchain.
How Significant Is OrdinalsBot in Bitcoin's Digital Art Scene?
OrdinalsBot has rapidly become a dominant player in the Bitcoin digital art space.
The platform claims responsibility for 80% of the 10 largest files inscribed onto the Bitcoin network.
Among its most notable achievements is the inscription of a manifesto from the privacy-focused tech stack Logos.
This monumental inscription, which took up nearly 4 MB of block space, cost 3.5 BTC, the equivalent of $235,000.
Toby Lewis, co-founder of Ordinals, likened these high-profile inscriptions to securing a permanent presence on Bitcoin.
"We see it as being like acquiring a billboard in Times Square because of the visibility that it gives you within the Bitcoin network and that will last forever," Lewis explained to CoinDesk.
However, the Elvis Presley collection uses standard inscription methods, focusing on regular-sized data rather than the "four megger" blocks used in larger inscriptions.
How Will the Elvis Legacy Be Shaped by Blockchain?
Royalty plans to build a lasting impact for Elvis Presley’s digital legacy through a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) known as the Elvis Legacy Council.
In an effort to shape the future of Elvis’ presence in the digital world, the DAO will be funded through the sales of the Elvis Side $Btc collection.
A litepaper, set to be released soon, will outline the exact plans, including how 5% of the revenue generated from primary and secondary sales will directly benefit this council.
This unique intersection of art, legacy, and blockchain demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to preserving and expanding one of the most iconic cultural figures of the 20th century.
By partnering with OrdinalsBot, the Elvis legacy seamlessly transitions into the Bitcoin ecosystem, offering fans and collectors a fresh, engaging way to connect with the King of Rock and Roll in 2024.
Moreover, this initiative not only fosters a tangible connection for fans to their idols but also sets a powerful precedent for other cultural icons to explore how blockchain can preserve and evolve their digital identities.
Will fans of pop culture legends like Michael Jackson seize the opportunity to engage with the blockchain revolution, securing their legacies in an increasingly digital world?
