Strong Earthquake Strikes Off Borneo Coast, No Tsunami Threat Reported

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 occurred off the eastern coast of Borneo, Malaysia, at 0:57 on Monday, according to Ming Pao. The tremor was felt as far away as Singapore. The epicenter was located in the waters near Kota Kinabalu, with a depth of 678 kilometers. Initial reports from the German Research Centre for Geosciences and the U.S. Geological Survey indicated a magnitude of 7.1, which was later revised. The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center stated that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat. Authorities reported that the quake was felt along the west coast of Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia, but no casualties have been reported. Residents in Singapore also reported feeling the tremors.
