Vitalik Buterin Discusses Limitations of Zero-Knowledge Proofs in Blockchain

Vitalik Buterin has expressed concerns about the misconception that zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) render running nodes unnecessary. According to Foresight News, Buterin highlighted that users require more than just verifying header information; they need the ability to read the blockchain in a privacy-preserving and censorship-resistant manner. Remote procedure calls (RPC) do not offer this capability, and neither do solutions like Helios and Colibri. Buterin envisions Ethereum's future as a network handling data and transaction volumes far exceeding the capacity of a single node. However, achieving a truly permissionless and bottleneck-free system requires more than just zero-knowledge proofs.
