U.S. Democratic Representative Steven Horsford, co-author of the PARITY Act, expressed support for including crypto assets in retirement accounts at the Consensus 2026 conference in Miami. According to Foresight News, Horsford views this as a significant step towards reducing wealth inequality. However, he emphasized that legislation would not be rushed, and related provisions might be advanced through separate legislation.
Horsford also commented on the bipartisan crypto tax bill, the PARITY Act, which he is promoting alongside Republican Representative Max Miller. The bill aims to address fundamental tax issues related to crypto, focusing on the tax classification of 'income' and 'capital gains' in scenarios such as digital asset sales, staking rewards, and lending. He highlighted that the current federal tax laws are outdated, and the IRS is issuing tax forms to numerous crypto users that it cannot adequately manage, underscoring the urgent need for legislative guidance.
