Canadian Family Loses $1.6 Million in Bitcoin After Violent Home Invasion

According to Odaily, a family residing in British Columbia, Canada, experienced a violent home invasion in April 2024. Four masked intruders, disguised as postal workers, entered the family's home. The parents were subjected to waterboarding and physical assault, while their 18-year-old daughter was forced to take nude photographs. The ordeal lasted 13 hours and resulted in the loss of $1.6 million in Bitcoin. A suspect from Hong Kong has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement in the crime, admitting he was hired for a fee of 50,000 Canadian dollars. The other three suspects remain at large. Police have issued warnings that as cryptocurrency investors become targets for organized crime, similar incidents may continue to occur.
