Ethereum's Privacy Infrastructure Key to Institutional Adoption, Says Expert

Ethereum Foundation's Institutional Privacy Task Force (IPTF) technical lead, Oskar Thoren, emphasized the importance of privacy as a foundational element of Ethereum's infrastructure at the EthCC[9] conference. According to Foresight News, Thoren highlighted that a major challenge for institutions entering the Ethereum ecosystem is balancing the protection of business strategies and transaction privacy with increasingly stringent regulatory compliance requirements. Without comprehensive end-to-end privacy protection, Ethereum's potential as a global settlement layer could be limited. Thoren elaborated on the three main research areas of the Ethereum Privacy Preserving (PSE) team: Private Writes, Private Reads, and Private Proving. Private Writes aim to align the cost and convenience of private transactions with regular ones, utilizing technologies like Plasma for confidential asset transfers. Private Reads focus on addressing data leakage issues in services such as RPC, enabling institutions to interact with on-chain data without revealing identity or query intent. Private Proving seeks to enhance the efficiency of generating and verifying zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), supporting complex applications like confidential DeFi and provable identity.
