U.K. Committee Calls for Ban on Crypto Donations to Political Parties

A U.K. parliamentary committee has recommended an immediate prohibition on cryptocurrency donations to political parties. According to NS3.AI, the committee emphasized the need for the Electoral Commission to establish guidance before the next general election, scheduled for August 2029. The report also suggested reducing the donation disclosure threshold from 11,180 British pounds to 500 pounds and proposed the creation of a Political Finance Enforcement Unit. The committee highlighted that the use of mixers, privacy tools, chain hopping, and AI-enabled splitting of transfers complicates donor tracing, indicating that the current system is ill-equipped to handle these risks.
