The U.S. Senate has once again failed to advance a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, prolonging the department's shutdown that has lasted for over a month. This marks the fifth attempt by the Senate to move forward with the appropriations bill, which aims to fund the department until the end of the current fiscal year on September 30. The procedural vote on March 20 resulted in 47 votes in favor and 37 against, falling short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bill. Sixteen senators did not participate in the vote.
