Canada's Prime Minister, Carney, announced the country's first-ever defense industry strategy on Tuesday, aiming to reshape the defense supply chain through substantial domestic investment. According to Ming Pao, the strategy seeks to streamline procurement processes and enhance strategic autonomy, ensuring Canada controls its destiny as a sovereign nation. Over the next decade, the Canadian government plans to invest more than 500 billion Canadian dollars, with the goal of awarding 70% of federal defense contracts to Canadian companies and increasing defense industry revenue by 240%. This initiative aims to reduce Canada's longstanding reliance on international suppliers, particularly the United States, in weapons systems manufacturing.
