Hollywood Tackles Bitcoin Mystery With Conspiracy Thriller Killing Satoshi
Hollywood is set to explore the enigmatic world of Bitcoin through the upcoming film ‘Killing Satoshi’, a conspiracy thriller directed by Doug Liman, known for ‘The Bourne Identity’ and ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’.
The movie will star Oscar winner Casey Affleck and comedian-actor Pete Davidson, though the details of their roles remain undisclosed.
Who Will Take On Satoshi Nakamoto’s Secrets?
The story centres on the mysterious identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, whose mined holdings have remained untouched since 2010 and are now valued at nearly $120 billion.
Liman describes the plot as a ‘David and Goliath’ battle, with antiheroes confronting powerful global forces.
Liman told Variety,
“‘Killing Satoshi’ follows unlikely antiheroes taking on the most powerful people on the planet in an epic battle that strikes at the core of what is money and who controls it.”
Screenwriter Nick Schenk, who has collaborated with Clint Eastwood on ‘Gran Torino’ and ‘The Mule’, brings the narrative to life, depicting political intrigue, high-tech espionage, and a race against time as governments, Wall Street, and Silicon Valley vie for control over Satoshi’s secret.
Production Backed by Crypto Enthusiast Ryan Kavanaugh
The film is being financed by Ryan Kavanaugh through his company Proxima, in partnership with Aperture Media Partners.
Ryan Kavanaugh is a film financier and entrepreneur best known as the founder and former CEO of Relativity Media.
Kavanaugh, who previously led Relativity Media, which produced films including ‘The Social Network’ and ‘The Fighter’, returns to Hollywood with a project blending finance, technology, and conspiracy.
Kavanaugh said,
“This is not just a movie about Bitcoin and its elusive and mysterious origins but really about what it stands for.”
Production will begin in October in London, aiming for a 2026 release.
Producers Lawrence Grey and Shane Valdez, alongside executive producer Jared Underwood, are overseeing the project through the UK-based The Production Lens, founded by Kavanaugh, Grey, and Garret Grant.
