For new users of the Arweave ecosystem Say, they may think the protocol's only use is for data storage. But developers have made Arweave a key component of their social applications and protocols. The social applications and protocols already built on Arweave show that the possibilities for building on Arweave are endless, and innovative use cases need to consider what to build and how to build it. According to Community Labs’ snapshot of the ecosystem, there are 18 projects in the Arweave social category; some of them have mature functionality, and some are relatively new. Overall, 2023 was a good year for the social track in the Arweave ecosystem. Most of the projects formed partnerships and integrations with other projects, and here is an overview of these projects in 2023 and the milestones they achieved.

Arweave Name Service (ANS)
In 2023 ANS optimized the system and integrated with some projects in the Arweave ecosystem, including View Block, ArConnect, everVisionandPermacast. Users of these applications can use human-readable ANS names instead of lengthy alphanumeric strings (addresses). ANS states that its goal is to achieve decentralization and is currently moving in this direction, launching the ANS DAO and issuing tokens. The token is also listed on everPay and has a trading pair on Permaswap. According to the CTO of Decentland Labs, ANS is one of the few profitable projects in the Arweave ecosystem, with protocol revenue of $5,400 $AR. ANS has also launched ArMoji, which creates emoji short links to your Arweave data on the ANS protocol.
Lens Protocol
2023 is the second year of Lens Protocol's establishment. For a 2-year-old project, it has achieved considerable achievements. It launched Momoka this year, creating a buzz within the Arweave ecosystem. Lens needed Momoka to help it reach Web2 social media performance levels. The partnership between Lens, Irys, and Arweave allows Momoka to conduct most of its transactions off-chain while relying on Arweave as the data availability layer, so Momoka’s storage costs are quite cheap; as of this writing, View Explorer shows 1.13M transactions Cost is $558.97. In August 2023, Momoka reached500,000 transactions at a cost of only173USD, said Nader Dabit, a well-known developer on Twitter: “With these updates , our infrastructure is now cost250 times lower and scalable165 times higher.”

Hey (formerly Lenster)
Hey is a decentralized and Permission-free social media apps. It played a key role in Lens Protocol’s Momoka beta testing. In the middle of the year, Hey launched Lens Garden, which users can use to invite friends to interact on the platform. It also launched Streaks Calendar, which shows users’ daily activity on the platform. Hey gives users wiggle room by allowing them to choose its algorithm to personalize their experience.
Orbis
Orbis isan open source The Social Protocol, which will involve users in building the product in January 2023, will conduct weekly polls to understand the features users want to see. Based on weekly polls to determine features to be added to their SDK. It launched Orbis.connect-v2, which allows developers to display user profiles in applications using MetaMask, Wallet Connect or Phantom. Then Orbis.createGroup was introduced to help developers create groups and channels in their applications. Later it launched Orbis create and Orbis.createConversation. Launching Orbis V2 accelerates the speed of building social modules. It also allows developers to integrate Discord and encrypt emails in user notifications. Other features it has created include Reddit-like likes. Several projects this year also used Orbis technology to build social applications.

Stamp Protocol
Stamp Protocol was released in early 2023 Version 0.2. Stamp’s vision is to allow creators to monetize the internet without having to keep their content private or have gates in place, founder Rakis said at the time. In May it released version 1.0 to make Stamp more usable, scalable and complete. Among them, some projects in the ecosystem (such as BazAR and Fair Protocol) have integrated Stamp Protocol.
Relation Labs
Relation Labs isa Decentralized Social Graph Protocol. In February, it expanded its Web3 social products by adding the Decentralized Access Control SDK (Decentralized Access Control SDK) provided by Lit Protocol to develop privacy modules in the semantic SBT protocol or programmable NFT, enabling the uploading of encrypted data in SBT Go to Arweave for permanent storage. In April, Relation launched tokenomics for its native token $REL, with a total supply of 1 billion. Afterwards, the Relation Governance Committee was established, and Relation proposed and passed a restructuring of its design architecture and introduced the Semantic data layer. The alpha version of Relation Account was released in November, and the official version is expected to be released before the end of 2023.
