U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Andy Kim have called for an investigation into a transaction involving the acquisition of a stake in a Trump family crypto enterprise by UAE entities. According to PANews, the senators addressed a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, urging scrutiny of the deal for potential national security risks.
The transaction reportedly involves a UAE company purchasing a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for $500 million. Warren and Kim have requested Bessent, who oversees the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), to determine if the acquisition warrants a CFIUS review. They emphasized the need for a comprehensive, thorough, and impartial investigation if deemed necessary.
The senators have asked Bessent to respond by March 5, addressing several questions, including whether CFIUS has reviewed the transaction or provided any recommendations to U.S. President Donald Trump. They expressed concerns about the potential national security implications, particularly regarding the access to sensitive personal information collected by World Liberty Financial.
