Cuba Prioritizes National Defense Amid U.S. Tensions

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced on February 5 that Cuba has prioritized the implementation of a national defense readiness plan. According to Jin10, this initiative encompasses preparations across all levels of Cuba's territorial defense system, aiming to enhance the country's overall defense capabilities. Díaz-Canel declared that Saturdays will be designated as National Defense Day to systematically advance related efforts. The Cuban leader emphasized that the nation is preparing for a potential state of war, with the National Defense Council having analyzed and approved relevant plans and measures. He also revealed that Cuba possesses concrete information about ongoing terrorist activities targeting the country, which are allegedly supported and funded within the United States. At an appropriate time, Cuba intends to disclose this information and issue necessary condemnations. Díaz-Canel accused the U.S. government of imposing unilateral coercive measures, focusing its blockade on Cuba's energy sector. In response, Cuba plans to continue its energy transition by developing renewable energy sources, such as solar power, to reduce reliance on oil fuels and enhance energy self-sufficiency.
