U.S. Completes Formal Withdrawal from WHO After One-Year Notice Period

On January 22, it was reported that U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order last year on January 20, announcing the United States' withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO). According to PANews, the United Nations received this notification on January 22 of the same year. As per WHO regulations, a member state can formally exit one year after submitting a withdrawal request. Today marks one year since the U.S. submitted its application to leave the WHO, signifying its official procedural withdrawal. WHO spokesperson Lindmeier recently stated that the U.S. has the right to withdraw, provided it settles all outstanding membership dues. Currently, the U.S. has not paid its contributions for 2024 and 2025, totaling approximately $260 million.
