South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced a pilot program to utilize tokenized deposits for government operational spending, aiming for a full rollout by the fourth quarter of 2026. According to NS3.AI, the trial will commence in Sejong City, focusing on testing preset limits related to timing and spending categories within a distributed ledger technology (DLT) regulatory sandbox. This sandbox approval enables the ministry to experiment with tokenized deposits for fund execution, despite current regulations mandating the use of government cards.
